Fraternal Twins. So near and yet so far.

Twins222

Fraternal Twins is the name of our new and wonderful installation, opening at the gallery on May 14.  It’s all about how fraternal twins are the same but also different. It’s this   concept of dissonance applied to studio multiples. And in case you get dragged into a discussion about this, you can throw around the word zygosity. It refers to the degree of identicalness between twins. You’ll sound like you almost know what you’re talking about. Another word that might be relevant in this discussion is spooky. As in when identical twins really are so identical that it’s creepy. They would be having a high zygosity. (There, now I’ve used it in a sentence)(You, too, could try this at home). Luckily, fraternal twins while often a bit alike are generally not spooky. I’m relieved to be able to say that since the left twin above is Murray. And that’s Fern, his fraternal twin sister on the right.  Aren’t they adorable?

For those of you who are not fortunate enough to call New York home (yeah, we’re that arrogant), we thought we’d give you a taste of our “Under a Full Moon” exhibition, which we celebrated with an opening last week. Click on the name of the artist or designer for his or her galaxy of goods. You might want to lean away from the computer so you don’t drool on the keyboard. If you decide against it, don’t say we didn’t warn you!

“Holy the lone juggernaut!” goes the caveat in Ginsberg’s “Howl.” Well, we might as well own our greatness so we’re going to be doing a bit of howling tonight as we instigate a wine reception celebrating our newest exhibition. We were a little out there with the name, we know, but it’s, um, a full moon. Snap!

Best to wear some shades: even if Luna doesn’t shine brightly enough to warrant them, the gallery’s glistening with new tidbits by a long list of the greatest names in design. We can’t promise there won’t be a bit of craziness afoot, as our avant-garde design tastes do bring out the edgy in everyone, but we promise not to bite (hard). Can’t speak for the other howlers around; just in case, we suggest you leave your pooch at home!

The exhibition will feature master Studio works and Studio/Industrial collaborations resulting in unique pieces as well as limited editions, along with current and vintage production. Just to whet your appetite, here’s a partial list of the artists and designers on view:

Stop by 150 Greene Street between 6 and 8pm if you dare! Once inside, it’s anybody’s guess as to what’s safe and what’s not. Bwahaha…
