Giant Pink Flamingo x 2, at the MFA shop in Houston

FlamingogoThere’s no business like the pink flamingo business, especially at the Moss Bureau enhanced shop at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. These babies get a lot of attention. No surprise, really. Just the thing to be riding around your pool on these hot hot summer days. Giddy up, Divine! Eat your heart out, John Waters.

RIP, Richard Sapper, father of the Tizio

sapperRichard Sapper designed one of the most popular lamps of all time, the Tizio. That’s it on the upper left of the photo above. Which was taken at Moss, by the way. Just saying. Sapper also designed a nearly as popular espresso maker for Alessi, the 9090, and later an electric version, which is also on the wall, just above his right arm. He also designed the IBM Thinkpad and famously said no to Steve Jobs who wanted him to come to Apple. Click on the photo to go the Times obit. RIP, sir.

PIN UP gives big thumbs up to TERTIUM QUID

TQpinupThe new shiny covered issue of PIN UP has a very nice review of TERTIUM QUID which has almost gotten lost in the shuffle of attention on the Georg Jensen book. Click on the clipping to see it large enough to read. Click on the TQ title to buy the book.

Murray on the radio! Just like 1953 all over again.

monocleOkay, maybe it’s not radio. Maybe it’s a podcast? Whatever the hell it is, you can hear it at Monocle on iTunes. It’s part of a thing called Section D, No 161, and Murray’s bit starts at 25:30. If you click on MONOCLE above, you’ll go to their website which is not playing Section D right now, for some reason. But from there you can click through to iTunes, eventually. Then you can play 161  and search for 25:30. I know this seems like a lot of work, all for something which may not be but sure sounds a lot like radio, but at least we’re not sending you to Target, where the Jensen book is now available. We’d certainly be the last to say anything negative about any of the fine retail establishments offering Georg Jensen Reflections for sale, but it’s a little hard not to notice that the best selling book at Target is Underwater Dogs. Just saying.

Disegno goes NUTTY over Murray’s Jensen book

disegnoDespite the somewhat odd spelling of Murray’s name, this Disegno piece was very positive about the book and goes into much detail on the thinking behind it.  Most of it is an interview so a lot of the pith comes from Murray himself. He’s always had pith to spare. Click on any one of those gorgeous pitchers to read the full piece. And if you still have not purchased the book, we’re going to start worrying about you soon, but luckily you can fix this stupendous blunder by going here and plunking down your credit card.

Murray the Movie on Georg Jensen website

mmmovieClick on Murray’s white shirt to go to the Georg Jensen home page where you will find a short film of Murray explaining how he came to write the book and what he wanted to achieve with it. If you have somehow neglected to buy the book as of yet, you can rectify that oversight here.

Murray talks about his Jensen book at the Sackler Gallery in London

mm choThat’s Georg Jensen CEO David Chu watching as Murray explains it all to tout London design bigwigs at the Zaha designed Sackler Gallery at the Serpentine. Following his talk, there was a formal dinner, where the diners used ACTUAL JENSEN FLATWARE and other silver masterpieces. Yes, it’s true. The book, Georg Jensen Reflections, continues to receive glowing reviews, more of which tomorrow. For today, click on Murray’s glasses to see more pics of the night on the Jensen Twitter page.
